258 water pump?

I need yet another water pump for my 1980 CJ-7, 258. Gone through more than a few in the last couple of years. I've always bought new, not rebuilt. Last two were from NAPA auto store, first of the two lasted 6 weeks before it developed a leak. I don't know why my engine is eating these - are other 258 owners having any similar problems? Is there a "super-duty" or especially good aftermarket manufacturer? I've checked the pulley alignments and keep the belts properly adjusted. Thanks

I always have used Airtex brand waterpumps. They have a lifetime guaranty. Be sure that you don't overtighten the fan belt and use the proper ratio of coolant to water for your area. I used to use rebuilt/cheap new pumps on my '68 AMX, only to have them leak in 6 months to a year. I installed a new Airtex pump back in '84, no leaks since! Hope this helps, good luck.

I've always added a water pump lubricant to the anti-freeze. Not sure if ti really works, but in the 30 years I've been driving I've gone thru very few pumps.

As said belt tension & wp lube does'nt hurt if you don't get the kind w/ stopleak in it.
Check fan blade and /or cluch. An oz. near the end will destroy one in a hurry.
You are'nt running a aftermarket flex fan are you? If so please contribute to the steel recycling industry.
New pumps are always a plus but I always had good luck w/ napa remans.

Use lubricant in the antifreeze for the first few months. I've used nothing but NAPA waterpumps and never have had a problem.
