1: How do you know if your motor mounts or the rubber dampers are bad on a 258 inline 6 in a 1979 cj-7??

2: How do you replace them if they are bad?? Can you use a jack on the oil pan or do you have to use a hoist of wome kind?

Use a pad of wood on the jack to protect the pan. lift the motor slight amounts and check the rubber mounts. The mounts usually split where the rubber is bonded to the metal pad. If they're broken, it's easy to see. If you do one side at a time, and remove the brackets from the side of the block, it is easy to change them. Also check the trans mount, the rubber breaks (don't ask me about it) and the brackets loosen and/or crack often. Hope this helps, good luck!
