The firing order for the HEI is the same as the old distributor. Just look in the owners manual, or chiltons manual for the firing order for the 225. I believe its 1-6-5-4-3-2. Not ABSOLUTELY positive since I can't find my chiltons. The timing stays the same pretty much but you have to regap the plugs for the HEI. Just check the plug gap for the type and year engine you took the HEI out of.

Thanks, you are right on the order. Sorry I didn't make my question clear. On the cap, does it matter which terminal I make # 1?

PS. I gapped to 45, but don't know the donor to verify, I'll recheck the plugs after a couple days. Thanks again

 

Your best bet on the plugs is to pull the #1 sparkplug and watch for it to get to tdc. See where the rotor is pointing. That should be your #1. You'll know if you're close when you try to start it. You might have it or you might have to move the plugs half way around the cap.

To find TDC you should remove the sparkplug half-way. Turn the engine until you hear air squirting between the threads. TDC should be approaching. Line up the timing marks. That is TDC on you compression stroke.

Wait a min. before you put all the plug wires in. The spacing on the inside of the cap is different for different plugs. You can't just pick which spot on the cap you want to be # 1. I think its 2 plugs back fronm the first blank terminal.Somebody with a good running 225 hei should check this.

Ok guys start at the vaccum advance that will be #3 go clockwise start 3,2,1,6,5,4 the firing order is like in the past post 165432 but the vaccum post is the only refrence I can use on the cap
