I bought a 02 grand cherokee about a month ago, I love the jeep. I have a wrangler but this is the first big jeep. The things going on are as listed.

* When i first start the jeep it idles high between 1500 and 2500 but eventually idles down.

* when i go from first to reverse, sometimes it jerks real hard and also when i'm driving down the high way it sometimes acts like it cant make up what gear it wants to be in.

I took it to a mechanic and they put it on a scanner and drove it and changed tranny fluid but said nothing looked or sounded wrong, i changed the idle motor. My question is that i wanna know if any one else has heard of this and is it normal. It's a very sound jeep and all stock with 90,000 miles others just tell me its a typical dodge issue. also it has the 4.0 engine.

Thanks and all opinions are accepted.

Jeeper,

I had the same issue with my wife's 200 GC. The Governor solenoid and sensor need to be replaced. I also replaced OD kick down solenoid. All the issues went away after that. Cost about $150 and a few hours of sticky fun.

A second to the motion.

I agree that the govener solenoid can cause these fits. It is typical of that trans, wither it is in a grand chero. or a 1/2ton dodge ram. It is an easy fairly inexpensive fix. Sometimes they clog up and wont show up on a scan.
