Would anyone know what the compression should be for a 2000 yz 250, tried to ask the local dealer they said that they would have to look it up and that this would take time and they would have to charge me for that.any help will be appreciated.

The manual may have that information in it.
I believe a rule of thumb number is 120 to 140 psi.( somebody please correct that if it is inaccurate). Install the compression tester, hold the throttle wide open(gas off), and kick it until the pressure does not increase anymore.
Or maybe you were looking for the compression ratio?? That I cannot help you with. One more thing. Tell the local dealer to kiss your ass. If a knowledgeable mechanic is there he should be able to attain the info in a couple of minutes. Good Luck!!
That is pretty lame that they charge you for that...

i find it hard to believe that could charge you too look up the compression. thats like saying they would charge you to look up the poart number for brakes you wanted?? just seems weird
Checked the compresion last night, it only has 80 psi, from what I've found is that it should have at least 120, This explains why the bike wont kick start. (will start on compression) will not idle good and once it dies cannot kick start it. I think it is time for piston and rings (hopefully not a cylinder).
DDDDDDDDDddduuuuuuuuuueeeeeededdddde, that would be like EICKED man. And i am friggin sotoned off myl aarrssee rightnows, it is wahcekld.

we don't care about your extracuricular activities. dude you should be doing rings at least every 35-50 hours and piston like 50-65 at most, i do rings at like 25-30 and mine are beat.
Sorry bout that last post, lol. You change your rings every 25-30 hours?? That is like every week man!? Do you ride a 125 or 250??

yes that is how often i replace the top end. i have had the bike about 2yrs. last year i rode about 20 times 4-5 hours of true riding did rings, then piston and rings for that season
i did rings after about 4-5 rides this year
and will prob due rings and piston in about 3-4 more rides(have about 4-5 on it now)
so i will refresh
1999 - rings in middle of season
2000 - piston and rings after couple months
2001 - rings after couple rides will do piston and rings in middle of season
all pistons and rings are o.e.m.
own 1999 yz 250
applied triple clamp/pro tapers
sidewinder stainless/o-ring
pro cicuit pipe/shortened silencer
boyesen reeds
ebc front/rear pads
works connection frame guards
ac skid plate
black ufo rear fender
dunlop 756 front/rear
no-toil high flow air filter/up one size on main
vp 108 octane leaded 3gallons/ 2 gallons 93 unleaded
silkolene pro-2 40:1
silkolene comp medium gear
have ebc full clutch set when this one goes but still strong
in my manual it says rings 10hrs
piston 30 hrs
i'll take a pic if i can of old pistin/ blow by like a mo on exhaust side
i can def tell diff when i redo top
if you ride 125 (notice i said RIDE) youu should be doing twice as often
josh you ride a xr 200 completely diff man!
two strokes are meant to be rebuilt all the time that is why you can beat the piss out of them
sure you can ride 2 - 3- 4 seasons on it and when you seize the biatch on a hill you can't even stand on cause its so steep and then pay 1000 to get it resleeved and crank rebuilt due too all the funk that blew around in there.
no thanks
i know dudes that ride all the time on pump gas and never replace shiz, but they always wonder why how i clear the 80 ft table and don't bog and that big azzzzzzzzz hill climbs
hey it feels pretty cool when other people stop there bikes and whatch you do hills they don't dream of
dude had brand new 2001 cr and did this hill
so i tried it in second did't make it
tried again in third pinn it tap the clutch hold on and now i m staring down at you. barked by him nice and slow just so he could see my COMPLETELY balled tire then i smoked on the rest of the hills.!!
get 6 hours on 110/90-19 dunlop
Dude, you have to be rich. I figured when (which i prob will this summer) i get a 250 mx bike, i will do the top end every 3 months. YZ, sounds like you RIDE HARD, i don't ride that hard man, i wouldn't wind the thing totally out, i would just ride in the woods, and my shail pit and at the tracks a bit.

THEN WHY SPEND THE MONEY ON A 250 MX IF YOUR GONNA RIDE IT LIKE A xr???
pick up a yz250f or a xr 400 or a yz426f they dont need as much maintenance? when i ride down the tracks i pinn it in 5th for about 5-10 seconds you have to ride the bike in band or its no fun. thats whats cool about 250's you can bog it around in third when you should be in first then tap the clutch pinn the ho and you are gone, if you can hold on that is. 125's you have to bit the hellllllllll out of them to go anywhere. me and my friend traded the last time i went out (he has 97 cr 125 aluminum frame) and it was still cool but you cant do little stuff that i can do on 250 cause it has no low end power. like when i jump the railroad tracks to cross them. my bike i just gas a little hit the front tire then the rear pops it right in the air, hit the burm, tap the clutch and peace, i'm outdadoor
i understand that, but you could get more out of bike that will fit your profile.two strokes are awesome but they are race bikes. you have to keep up on them or they go too shiz fast. just do some research before investing
you guys are fing morons. i ride the $hit out of my bike and only redo every coupla years, and have yet so see major wear on anything.
every 3-4 rides methinks someone is a bit onthe dip$hit side.
the bikes are designeed to run just a smige longer than 3-4 rides/races whatever.
You wear your silver chain but the cross won't stop the lies, you believe in nothing

Roost, i coulda told ya that. When i first came on to this board, all you did was bust on me, you leave for a couple months, and come back, and think you are king sh!t.
I have gotten roosted a few too many times, in the head.
DON'T worry josh you'll get over it. i just checked out your site i think it is ok just a little to flashy. if you calmed down the colors it would be easier to read. opinion
i have to agree with Portgrinder...i redo my topends every couple of years, thats not saying there is no maintence involved during that process but i know i couldnt afford to ride if i rebuilt my topend that often.
