Just bought a 2000 sonoma sls extended 4x4 it has 36000mi and seems to be a pretty nice rig. I checked the milage and was surprised in the hills it got 19 to the gallon. I would like to know more about it.
Is there anyplace I can check the vin # to see what the towing and other specs are. It did not have any information when I bought it and the dealerships are not a whole lot of help.

The RPO codes in the glove box will give you more information about what the Sonoma came with from the factory. Send me an email to [email protected] and I will send you a file with GM RPO codes. I would attach it here but it is bigger than 100K. This place doesn't allow files bigger than that.

You should be able to look at the tag on the door to find that out. My 03 has a GVW of 5150 lbs and has the heavier duty suspension and 5 spd tranny.

I have pulled my Scout with it several times. It does ok, but it doesnt have near enough gears or power if you get in the hills or the wind. I just pulled it about 300 mi. round trip this past weekend. I got about 15 mpg on the way there and about half a tank of gas. Going back was a lot harder because I was going into the wind the whole time. I was lucky to stay at 50-55 if I wasnt following close behind my neighbor. It used almost a whole tank of gas.

How big is your gas tank. I figured 15mpg over 300 miles would be 20 gallons. I have a 93 S10 blazer that gets 20 mpg with a 20 gallon gas tank that's 400 miles per tank.

Still 15mpg while towing is great.

I wish these things came with bigger tanks.

Thanks Guys I will check out the internet site. I put a couple of new shocks on the front and should have done all for I just noticed the rears leaking. Stock shocks must have been crud. I also found an oil leak under the front of the motor the lines that go to the remote filter are cruded up and appear that is where the issue is. anyone have a similar problem?

You should run it by the dealership and have them run it for recalls. I believe there was one for the remote oil filter.
You can also go to autozone.com to look up recalls.

Check out JC Whitney they have some replacement fuel tanks. They have on for my '91 S-10 reg cab Long bed that takes it from 20 gal to 40 gal! short beds and blazers have smaller tanks but still good increase over stock.
