2 1/2\" lift-rancho vs pro comp

anybody have an opinion on these two brands of kits? tucson is limited to a selection of kits. i am not one to order on internet nor mail. like to see what am buying at counter and returns are easier!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif both these brands are available in-stock. any pros and cons on these? i would say their prices are insane! $750 for the rancho w/5000 shocks and $695 for pro comp w/shocks. catalog prices are much lower!

That is awfully high for those kits. Both are known to ride extremely stiff, but if your vehicle has a winch and such you will be OK. One other thing, the Pro-Comp 2 1/2" kit will give you much more lift than advertised, it is closer to 3 1/2". I'm running the Pro-Comp kit and with a 1" body lift I have enough room to run 35s. I also have a winch and a fs spare, wheeled the he!! out of it for a year before it finally started to ride OK. One huge advantage is the springs definitely WILL NOT sag after awhile like most "soft ride" kits I've seen.

Re: 2 1/2\" lift-rancho vs pro comp

Does that include the install? That is insane.

The procomp is known for the extremely harsh ride and unflexable springs. Rancho is better, but isn't the best by far. But there are people who swear by Rancho's lift

There is lots of places to wheel in AZ, CA, and NM. If you have to by from someone that you can see I suggest you go somewhere else to make your purchace. Take the place you are buying from a rag and see if they will match an advertised price(most will). Or find yourself a good mail order place and stick with them(there are many out there with great customer service, just ask around).

PS...if you can find a mail order place just across the state line, you won't have sales tax, then you can just go and pick up what you ordered

Re: 2 1/2\" lift-rancho vs pro comp

I got my 2 1/2" procomp kit from carparts.com. The original price was $360 I think, but I used the 33% off coupon and It came out to just under 300 bones. That is with out shocks, but you don't want procomp shocks anyway. As for installation this kit is so simple that if you can't install it you shouldn't own a jeep anyway.

no! it doesn't include install. i will do myself for sure!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif i will not pay that much to these guys. desert rat wants$789 for the rancho and $969 for trailmaster! go figure! on-line http://www.desertrat.com shows something like $450 for the rancho. the guy on phone said the store charges more due to overhead! this bites! i will persue elsewhere. maybe someone will do a c.o.d.. thanks for the input all!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

What I did 2 1/2 yrs ago when I bought my current lift was to order just the springs, bought Rancho RS5000s on sale at Sears and went down to the fastener store and bought u-bolts for a fraction of what I would have paid. Mail ordering name brand stuff is OK now adays, don't be leery, I do it all the time and have never been done wrong. The key is reputable companies and known brands.

Re: 2 1/2\" lift-rancho vs pro comp

I got a rancho 2.5 lift for my 84 CJ-7 about 4 years ago. It was a VERY stiff ride. I suffered for about a year, hoping it would soften up, but it didn't. I figured the spring rate was too high for my jeep with it's fiberglass body, so I took out the smallest leaf on all 4 springs, and that made it a little better, but not much.
I recently removed the Rancho springs (they went to my wife's Scrambler(-hopefully they will ride better under the heavier vehicle)and got Superlift springs.
They ride ALOT better with all the leaves still in than the Rancho one did with 1 removed! Also, they seem to let the axles articulate better, and they have the preferable bolt-and-clamp system instead of just clamps like the Rancho. In addition, the Superlifts have pads between the leafs as well and the ends of the leafs are tapered. Finally, the Rancho springs come with aluminum degree wedges which after 4 years were corroded, cracked and falling apart when I removed them.
The cost was 539.95 with 4 shocks (including 52.00 shipping to Massachusettes)from National Tire and Wheel.
I also went to my local 4WD shop 1st, but they advised me to order them from National, because they could not get them for a decent price for me.

Re: 2 1/2\" lift-rancho vs pro comp

I know most people here on the forum dislike 4wheel parts wholesalers, but . . . A couple of years ago, with my first CJ-7, still new to the game and just looking for a good price, I ordered the Genuine Suspension 2 1/2" lift from 4WPW's. It came with the Pro-Comp 3000 shocks and everything else I needed. I've heard that the Genuine Suspension springs are actually made by Pro-Comp. Don't know if its true or not. I've also heard that the Rancho 5000's and the Pro-Comp 3000's are the same shock made in the same factory. Again, don't know if its true or not. Anyway, to make a short story long, the whole system worked great and it came in under $400 shipped. All of my Jeep owning friends were extremely impressed with how well the suspension worked on that Jeep. We got to calling it the Caddy of Jeeps because the ride was so damn plush. So if you can get over your mail order phobia, its definately something to consider.

Re: 2 1/2\" lift-rancho vs pro comp

the only reasonable thing to do is order a suspension kit from some mail order outfit. I sugest BDS(Big Dick's Suspension) springs, they are cheap (about $300 a set) and then order the appropriate shocks from a 4wpw or some other big mail order place. U-bolts can be found at a fastner store or custom spring shop for a good price, usually custom made ones cost the same as the cheap ones at the local auto parts store. Good luck
