anal retentive police, eh?

i got my first ticket just before i turned 18. mine was a citation though, not on my record. it was for "squeeling tires". the neat thing was that the tires never squeeled, they just smoked. ociffer steere (that's his real last name, he was my DARE officer) gave me the $60 citation. he said he'd give me one for careless and wreckless driving. i didn't say anything, i could've fought it and won since he went through two stopsigns without stopping and didn't turn on his lights. however, i just wanted to get my permanent license in two weeks.

umm $47.50 for careless driving? i dunno about you but my buddy got $525 for doing less than you. His throttle cable stuck on his newly built engine on his '70 nova and it jammed going to a stop, guess what, right where a cop was hiding, and keot going full throttle, i was there, and it happened so fast that he couldn't do anything. the rear end slung around and it was doing a burnout in the road in all of 15 seconds. he hit the kill switch and we had to park it because it stuck so bad. cop saw that it was stuck but complained that it was his fault for not keeping an eye on it.
good thing was it was 2 miles from my house and we just walked home and towed it back. but he took it to court and showed the judge the prob and he cut it down to a "failure to complete a stop and turn" for $125

Just got my first ticket a couple months ago for having expired tabs, so I know how it feels. Made me feel really stupid, since I didn't even realize they were expired until I was pulled over. $47.50 isn't too bad though. I know a guy who was doing donuts in an almost empty grocery store parking lot and got arrested for wreckless driving plus he got his car towed away. It cost him a lot more than $47.

I once got a ticket for wreckless driving (spinning donuts). But it was on private property(at my dads shop) so I took it to court and they revoked the ticket. The cop didnt believe me that it was my dads property even though my dad was there when I got the ticket.

WRECKLESS DRIVING sounds like a good thing. Driving without causing wrecks

Apparantly those of us in CA get screwed, especially in the bay area. Reckless driving out here will get you over $1000 in fines, Careless is over $500. Hell, I've had speeding tickets that cost me upwards of $600. Stop sign cost me over $300. ONe more reason that CA sucks I guess.

4 Running a Stop sign
13 or 14 Speeding Tickets
40 Times Pulled over

Speeding Tickets in 4 different States Mostly Texas, but also Oklahoma(2), Louisiana (2 Stop Signs & 4 Speeding), Arkansas (1)

Taken Defensive Drving for most in Texas, Probation for some, just paid those in Oklahoma and Arkansas, got all in Lousiana knocked down to non-moving violation (it pays to know a District Attorney)

AND I still drive fast. Just the other night I got my Suburban up to what I think calculates to over 100MPH on 37's. I think my speedo is 16% off. So 87mph=100.92mph

This is why I do not drive a little Sports Car

To calculate you speedomter just have someone with stock tires follow you. I had to do that to my bros. jeep after the lift and tires. We got on the interstate late one night and I was right next to him.

Well to find your speed you'd cross multiply. If you knew your doing 40 when speedo says 32 then when speedo says 90 you're doing x.

32 = 40
90 = x

32x = 3600
32 = 32

x = 112.5

Follow? sorry its kinda tough to do it on here, if you like i'll write it and scan it or something.

Fight it man! I got a speeding ticket in a speed trap last August, and fought it by mail. Ended up winning the case and getting all my money back. No points on my record either. Trust me, you want to keep your liscense and insurance clean. When my insurance passed the 3 year limit last March my insurance went down by $100 every 6 months./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

When you fight the ticket by mail, you don't have to waste all the time going to the actual court room, and the officer has to write up a rebuttle of your claims as to why you did what you did. Thing is, they always schedule the officer's court appearance on their off days, so they get TRIPLE TIME for their couple of hours out of their off day. I'd do that, wouldn't you? However, if you fight it by mail, they are required to write up a rebuttle to your explanation for FREE, on their own time./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif If they aren't getting paid for it, they aren't going to do it. It's just like the old fight it in court and if the cop doesn't show up you get off idea, except easier and cheaper./wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

That is correct. When you change your tire size (bigger or smaller) your speed is affected in a percentage (%). That means that if you are going 5mph, your speed will not be "off" very much. However, the faster you drive the more your speedometer is "off". The percentage it is off will always remain a constant unless you change your tire size.

I think it is a fixed number.
Your tranny spines your axel at a sertine rate. The bigger the tire the farther your vehicle travels ever axle rotation. You dont travel farther per axle rotation when you go faster. It sounds like a set number to me(makes sence to me). How do you figure a percentage?

Because you have just changed the tire height, and the difference is measured in a percentage. Like a 33 is 3.1% taller than a 32. For the equation that you would use to figure out the difference in indicated speed and actual speed, you'd use the percentage difference between tires.

Nothing else changes when you change tire sizes. The speedo is still set up to indicate the speed your truck would be traveling at if it had 3.73 gears, the TH700R4 tranny, and 265/75R16 (32x10.5R16) tires. The tranny spins the rear diff at a certain rate, yes. However, your tires are now taller, 285/75R16 (33x11.25R16---these numbers are for my Blazer) which means the tire has more diameter, thereby, every time your tire makes one complete rotation, you have covered a little more distance than you did with the tires the truck was configured to have on it. So the speedo indicator says you just went the distance that equals 1 mph, but your tire actually covered a little bit more because it has more diameter than the stock tire. So to use my numbers for example, if the odometer said I went 10 miles, I actually covered 10.31 miles. At 20 miles indicated I have actually gone 20.62 miles. 30 indicated is really 30.93 miles, and so on and so on. Get what I am trying to say?
