Have rusty rocker panels on a 1999 Tracker. Collision shop said it is expensive to try and repair them and that this is a known problem with Trackers in Mid Michigan. What have any of you done to replace or repair rusty rocker panels?
I took off the plastic rocker panel covers and cut the rocker panels off as high as I could, pretty much right where the crease is below the door. That got rid of the rust and actually gave it a higher appearance which looks better with the 3" lift.
I cut the rust off my rocker panels, and replaced with new steel. Then I used bedliner over all of that, and extended up over the old paint a couple inches.
Mines an 03 with over 225K miles on it.
