I am looking at a stock 1987 sami with A/C, a rebuilt 1.3 motor (needs a valve adjustment from the sound of it), it has NEVER been 4 wheeled. The undercarriage looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. New top (mildewed though). Needs an alignment, the right front hub is stuck, needs shifter sheet. Has 4 1"x1" rust spots on the body.

The guy wants $1500 because he showed me about $2500 in receipts for the new engine and misc. new parts. I offered him 1000 and he won't take it.

What do you guys think it's worth?

well, up here I'd have no problem shucking out 1500 for a mint body. I'm sure it's not as big a problem down there, though. The rust , I mean.

No way...$1000 is high to begin with. Never mind what he's asking.

I respectfully have to disagree with this answer

1st- the zuke market is different in Fla, Mass, Pa, Az, Ca. Have you been watching any other zukes to see what they sell for in your area?? Your local autotrader mag and Ebay sales in Fla (like it or not) are good indicators.

2nd- unless the price is stupid low ($50) or way high ($4000) how can anyone honestly price a car sight unseen whether it's across town or 1000 miles away??

3rd- any zuke you buy is going to have issues..part of the fun of these things is working on them yourself. The more big things already fixed the less $ you have to spend getting it sorted so you can start modifying it to your own ideal. You've got a pretty highly modified zuke right now..how does $1500 feel to you? Even if 1/2 the guy's receipts are labor charges that still sounds like a decent price.

Koko I'm not smacking ya, sometimes it just makes me laugh how damn cheap us zuke bastids is...we want a cherry truck for nothing then think nothing of dropping thousands on it to make it into something is wasn't...

Guess if we wanted to spend big $$ we'd be driving Heeps eh?

(Psst...I'm fast approaching $4K in mine...would $500 be too much??)

i agree with tomcat and toyguy on this one.

it is a regional thing when figuring out a fair price. for me i would be scouring the body to no end making sure it is great or i would walk no matter what. mint bodies are not available around here and when one is brought in they bring big$$$. same goes for Heep tubs and land cruiser tubs exept times 4.

fair price also depends on what you want out of the vehical. if you are buying it for every day transportation then the mechanicals and interior may be high on your priority list. most people toss the stock 1.3's and swap in something better so maybe paying more for one with a rebuilt engine isn't a smart thing to do....

i would think (without looking at it in person) that $1500 is a fair market value for the zuk in the condition described.

I would consider $1500 a bargin. A stuck hub and 4 small rust spots ain't nothing. Heck I wouldn't have a problem paying $2500.

I stick with my comment. But I do agree with you toyguy that part of the fun is working on them. I paid $1200 for mine last year and got this one.

But since two of my friends have picked up Zuks for next to nothing. One came with a parts rig and the other ran for $1000 and the rust was not bad at all. The other guy got his for $50 bucks in NH with a popped motor. All I'm saying is that there are deals out there

Beside the price VS location issue.
What does the body look like where you can't see it?
Like under the fender flairs, in the floor area's?
If there is visible rust, you can most likly find some hidden. As long as you know before you by it.
My sami was clean, not a spot of rust on it.
Till I pulled the fender flairs and looked under the spot welded L channel. It wasn't that bad, but it was there.

Koko - You had a pic up of the zuke on a trailer behind your black Durango right? Nice bunch of rolling stock!

I agree that there's deals to be found on zukes, especially if they have any of the typical zuke issues that we all could fix blindfolded. (I haven't found one locally yet however...)

The zuke in question isn't a steal @ $1500 but it's probably worth that much.

I hate to admit it but I've paid more than that for Sammys that were 1) worn out 2) stupidly thrashed/trashed contributing to problems I was never ever able to figure out.

No rust though. Rust scares me after meeting Tazuki and seeing his rig.

Even with a tired engine , mine is getting faster since the wind just goes through it . Seriously, rust free zuks around here don't exist , so when one comes up that looks good it's worth quite a bit ....
