I've got a 91 Tracker with a 1.6/auto/4wd. One thing I didn't check when I got this truck was how long the motor SHOULD last based on peoples experiance, so now I'm asking.
It currently has 123k on it, I do the maintainence on it and it seems to run good without any obvious problems.
How many miles could be expected on this motor before anything major comes up? My Fords spoiled me, I have around 220k on both of them without problems, just curious if the 1.6 will last anywhere close to that.
Thanks,
Jeff

No no nooooo... Don't listen to Sean. You can expect 125K out of the motor and that auto tranny, even worse! So to save you from troubles I am willing to help you this one time and buy the drivetrain and wiring from your vehicle.

All kiding aside... actually I'm not kidding!
With proper maintenance that vehicle should last you 200K but then it really isn't worth anything to us so you might as well go crash it into a tree (rear-end-first)and sell the motor and trans to me.

the 1.6 will last if you keep the revs down. the suzuki engines are decieving because they can run nice and smooth even after they are well past their prime. compression tests will give you a good idea of how strong the engine actually is.

i know i have gone through a ton of POS suzuki engines and personally do not care for them. it took over 200,000 miles for my ranger 4.0 to ever need anything for the engine but i never get many miles out of suzuki engines, but i am hard on them.

attached is a pic that sarge posted a while back clearly illistrating why 1.6 engines are know as "rod munchers". stock samurai rod is on the left and the frail 1.6 one is the tall thin one on the right.

keep the revs down and you will be fine
