D44/Wagoneer rehash

I know this has already been commented on but I just got back from the bone yard and they have a '79 wagoneer with quadra-trac. Are these the D44's I want? Is $350/pr a good price? They also have a couple '78's not quadra-tracs, are these just as good or what?

Re: D44/Wagoneer rehash

Yes, the Quardas are the one's you want. However! there are 2 different widths in the Quardas. One is about 2-3 inches wider than the other. The easiest way to tell is to look at the Passenger's Side front. The tube from the pumpkin out to the knucle is about 4" on the wide one and about 2" on the narrower ones, Both are much wider than the stock Samies. Some of the non-quadras had a dana 44 front and what has been called a "super" 20 rear. SImilar to the bad mouthed 20 in the back of alot of CJ5's and CJ7's but with 1 piece axles. The are also center diff in the rear. Although not too bad of an axle the Dana is more sought after.

hope this helps

The price seems pretty good of they aren't all trashed out (bearings, splines, yokes, brakes, etc.)

Re: D44/Wagoneer rehash

if it is indeed a 79 wagoneer then it has the axles you want. the cherokees had the wider axles. wagoneers never came with the wide track option. also make sure you get all the steering components, u-bolts, spring plates, etc. with them. also i would get the spring hangers from the frame if you can get a torch to it. they come in handy if you are doing te yj swap at teh same time.
