3.8 Swap started

Well we have started the process of swapping a 3.8 Buick into my 92' parts rig. From reading the 200r4 post it sounds like this tranny might be the one to get. Is it shorter than the TH350 shortshaft? Pulled the body off the frame to set this up. Anyone have experience in this swap please feel free to give advice here. Currently we are doing a SPOA on it use wrangler springs. Once thats done then plan on setting the motor/tranny up and fab up mounts.

Re: 3.8 Swap started

THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WON'T WORK!!! i saw some blockhugger headers in the summitt racing or speedway catalog fer $99. and the 200r4 tranny is much thinner so you won't hav as much trouble puttin it in the trans tunnel, and you're front driveshaft won't hit it. and you will have to move the t-case back about 10". i have an intermediate shaft made up that will work if u want it , i'll sell it for $50. that's what the guy charged me to make it and it's got the big chevy u-joint on the front end. lemme know. e-mail or call (800)656-7919 .
good luck.

Re: 3.8 Swap started

i forgot, i also got a rebuilt metric 200 tranny i'll sell cheap. it was behind my isuzu motor but it was bolted with an adapter. i think it's the same as a 3.8 pattern.only got 400 miles on it.

Re: 3.8 Swap started

The 200r4 is a universal automatic for GM motors on all models of GM based vehicles. I have a link attached to the last post on the 2.8 ltr swap. Also if I remember correctly the 200r4 has the same shifting abilities that the 700r4 that was only found in the Corvette. I used to have a url that had all this information including automatic transmission weights, lenght, width, and height, etc. But my computer took a dump and I had to start again from scratch. The 350 and 400 automatics only bolt up to chevy based motors.
