200R4 Auto trans question...

Well, as most know I've got a 2.8L engine and all I need is a transmission! I want to go with an Auto and think the 200R4 would be a great trans for the Zuk. Its small, yet strong and I think it will bolt up to the 2.8L engine I have. This is where my question comes in... I was out at the junk yard looking for stuff and came across a 200R4 in a car. Does anyone know if the 200R4, out of a car, will bolt up to the 2.8L out of a Jeep? I have the trans out of the Jeep, but it is a stick and looks to be very wide and don't know if I can make it work? Plus, I would like to convert it to an Auto anyway. Anyone know of any other transmissions that would work for me. I'd like to try and keep it small, I think the 700R4 would be too big and the driveshaft would be very short!

Its a camaro with a 2.8L engine in it! Just don't know if a car trans will work with the truck engine? I know I need the flange and what not.

Re: 200R4 Auto trans question...

I'm pretty sure the 2.8 in the Jeeps is different than the 2.8's in Chevy's.

I believe the 2.8 in the S-10 is mated to the 200r4, that is what I'm looking at for my sam. I haven't done any measuring yet but I think it will fit pretty good.

I thougth it was all the same? The 2.8 engine was made by GM, should have the same bolt pattern on the back shouldn't it? No matter what vehicle it was in?

I'm pretty sure that AMC cast their own blocks at their own factory.
I'm 99.85% sure of this.
but maybe not

Re: 200R4 Auto trans question...

I was going with this tranny...as most do I reckon... when the 4.3 was an option... it is small enough to fit but you might want to move your tcase back. I had it all measured out but when I drop'd it as an option I did a brain dump...plus I just got off work so I have been up since 0445.

The 200r4 is a universal bolt pattern for almost all GM motors.
