About to become a Trailer Queen!

Ok folks,

I've had a gutful of trying to mod my zook and keep it within the law so I can have it as a daily driver. So, I've decided to by a nice cheap zook and start again.

So far I've decided on:
- xfer gears
- twin lockers (lockrites)
- 1.3 (with a little working)
- 5spd tranny
- nothing over 33" but 10.5" or close to in width for rubber.
- roll cage

But the suspension is a mystery to me. I've been tossing up three systems:
- SPOA with drop shackles
- Coil on A-arm rear and SPOA on drop shackles front
- 1/4 eliptical rear with 3/4 eliptical front (or full 1/4 eliptic)

Though I can't choose which one. I don't want to be spending 500yrs fabricating bits and would like a setup that flexes great and is relatively easy to make.

any suggestions? I've noticed a lot of you American and Candian zookers have great flex. What type of setup are you running? How easy was it to make? and how well does it flex (RIT score if possible please)?

Re: About to become a Trailer Queen!

I am running SPOA with 4" custom springs, and drop shackles all around. My ramp score is about 1100 on a 28deg ramp.

If I were to build another one I would go with a 1/4 elip rear, and a standard SPOA front with custom springs. The upside to this is that everything works good and has been tested and the price tag is not out of the ball park for the average fella. The coil setups work really nice but are way to damm expensive and have not ramped up enough for people to really test them out, so unless you can build it yourself.

But the nice part of building a trailer queen is that you dont have the limitations that road vehicles have so you can do alot of trial and error stuff. Heck you are in Australia there should be plenty of Yota axles available with coil type setups to be able to pirate off of.

Re: About to become a Trailer Queen!

Yota axles are out of the question. I want to retain as many stock parts as I can to save $$$$$.

Do you have pics of your rig flexing it up?
How hard would it be to go back to standard spoa after creating the 1/4 eliptical rear?

If I can keep mine road legal that would be nice (even if I have to do some dodgey state jumping to do it).

as you can see my 3" springs have 0 flex on a 28degree ramp.

Go 1/4 in the rear. SpOA upfront with rear springs moved inboard.

Tim,

I'd love to see some pics of that.
