If you donn\'t know what a shifter sheet is.. read

My daily driver's tranfer case is frozen and in a "neutral" making my Sami "stuck". The shifter was on its way from 4 low to 4 hi... I think. The shifter won't budge and no sound was made when it became stuck. No clunk or whine... nothing. I know it is the transfer case. My biggest question is. Does it sound fixable for a shade tree mechanic with a good selection of basic wrenches? I've wanted a GRS II for a while but I don't want to spend that kind of money just yet... Please help!

Re: Help! Troubleshooting transfercase...

Classic... There is a crappy stock "shifter sheet" like a doughnut shaped bushing that goes bad after about 20 minutes of use... The others will post more information. No it is MORE than sure that you've got the classic problem..

Re: Help! Troubleshooting transfercase...

Used the above search engine to look up the phrase "shifter sheet" and BAM!!! I've got ten different explanations and pictures and even more had I needed to look further! You all rock!!! Now I can spend my money on the more important parts of a true 4X4... those cool chrome naked ladies for my mud flaps and I just gots to find who sells those stickers of well hung bulls for my doors! (I am kidding, honest) Thank you, Brian, for the quick response. You obviously didn't want to spend too much time on the subject, --but you spent enough. --Thanks
