OT: Math problem with speedo

Hey Folks,

I'm in the process of making my "though-glow" dash instruments for the sierra. I want to be able to supply people with accurate readings on their dash. Especially those who have re-geared or not geared and have larger tyres. It will save a lot of guessing (on the drivers part) if they had accurate readings.

Most people I am speaking with are either 12, 18, 20 and 30 percent out on their readings. What I have been trying to figure out is a simple equation in which I put in the percentage that they are out in order to gain the appropriate speed.

Are there any math magicians out there that can help me?

Re: OT: Math problem with speedo

Yes. What're you trying to do?

If your sppedo is 20 percent low (it reads 40 when you're going 50), you multiply the speed you see by 1.25 to get your actual speed. That's because:

Indicated = .8 * actual (100% - 20%)
so actual = 1/.8, or 1.25 * indicated

12% low - multiply indicated speed by 1.14
18% low - multiply indicated speed by 1.22
20% low - multiply by 1.25
30% low - multiply by 1.43
