stock carb choke

i'm pickin' up an 89 sammi in a couple of days... but the guy i'm buying it has already had it running everytime i get there! so i've never had a chance to start it from cold. He says that he has to shoot some gas into the intake to get it started. Any ideas as to why? he suggested the choke... he said he was going to put in a manual choke... i think i might just get a new carb.

Definitely. Head over unannounced and start it up. Sometimes they can make wicked (it's a technical term, means "a lot") noises and sounds on startup that will go away when warmed up.

Re: stock carb choke

When I purchased my samurai, the choke was closed no matter how long the engine ran. Found out the thermostat was missing & since the choke opens according to coolent temp, it was never opening. A new thermostat solved that & the no-heat problems.

Re: stock carb choke
