Good new\'s free 20R

Hey guys my mom got a new car and now I can finally have her old pick up. It is a 1981 Toyota PU 2wd auto. It leaks a bit and the carb needs to be rebuilt but other wise it is fine. Has anyone but the motor with this trans in a Zuk? If so how does the trans fit compared to stock. I know how the motor will fit. It will be tight but worth the sqeeze.

Re: Good new\'s free 20R

Well is was doing som looking around and found a page that said they did not offer a 20R in 81 and that it was a 22R. Anyway that makes thinks a bit harder to do. I guess I will have to do a big body lift and some cutting.

Re: Good new\'s free 20R

Okay I searched and searched with little luck. Lots of posts with chat about doing the swap but none on actually doing it. Anyone have a link?

Re: Good new\'s free 20R

A buddy of mine did a 92 22RE and tranny out of a 2WD. (Get a 4WD oil pan) He cut out his grill to keep the stock T-case in the same spot...by doing this the motor stuck through the grill by 6" He also ran with no hood because he had to get the engine high(PAN) and it is tall to start with. Too much of a pain if you ask me, But it did run great and it was a blast to drive in the sand. We drag raced a 350V8 Jeep and we beat him!
Good luck J

Re: Good new\'s free 20R

Bill,
Having spent 5 years as an AMS I feel comfortable doing sheet metal work. I Hope the motor is a 20R and not a 22R. If it is a 22R I might not do the swap. I would rather move the t-case a bit or even move the whole front clip forward rather than doing it the way your buddy did. If I did that I will run YJ springs. Might as will change that if I going to extend the frame anyway. But a body lift will be used for the hood clearence. And Tranny clearence. I will run an electric fan which I should do anyway and a tranny cooler.
