Front Toyota Axle to Wide ?? Axle widths ??

Well here I am lost as usual.

The front samurai suspension is pulled.
OEM leaf springs installed.
Toyota axle lifted on hydraulic jacks,
Passenger side leaf spring centering pin in the Toyota axle's pad.
The driver side is over 3/8 of in inch off; The Toyota Front axle is too wide!

Is this a bad joke or what is going on?
I have checked my leaf springs and neither side is bent in anyway.

Should the front Axle from a 1980 Toyota Pickup fit without any coaxing?

I can use a large 'C' clamp, and undo the front shackles so that the pins drop in.
Now the front leaf spring ends are pigeon towed and the front shackles are sideways.

What has every one else running Toyota Pickup Axles done in the past?
Has anyone else has this problem?

Let me know, maybe I should pull the Toyota axles and go with SPOA samurai axles!

Re: Front Toyota Axle to Wide ?? Axle widths ??

The Toyota PU front axle perches are NOT spaced the exact same distance of a samurai.

What a pain. Since the passenger side of the diff uses two perches and the drivers side
one, the drivers side must come off. This is not small effort when the front end is bolted
up and was ready to go.

I am using the perches from a samurai SPOA setup.

I drilled the front toyota perch but it was over so far over that the U bolts would not pass and only
half the spring made contact.

You said that your useing Samurai spring perches? I didn't know that they would fit the Toyota axle? Did you have to fab. the perch to get it to fit over the axle? Did you get it to work? Someone else that has done the front might beable to help ya out. The rear on mine is in and I hope that I don't have the same problem for the front! Later

Re: Front Toyota Axle to Wide ?? Axle widths ??

Thank you for your earlier email.

The SPOA perches fit the rear toyota axles like they were made for them ( same size tubes ).

The toyota front axle tubes are larger then the samurai . The samurai passenger side pearch fits the
drivers side on the toyota axle without any modification.

Cut the toyota drivers side perch off and then use a grinder. The perch is aligned by jacking up the
drivers side of the axle and placing the new perch between the axle and the leaf spring.
Some quick welds with the MIG and it was done.

I never expected that it was necessary to redo a toyota front axle since most of the traffic on this
site indicates that its a bolt on item.

I am working on my Z-link right now.

Re: Front Toyota Axle to Wide ?? Axle widths ??

I am curious to learn if you have the same distance from the spring pad to the outer hub on each side of the front after doing the cutting and welding? Does the front and rear seem to track properly after the conversion?
I am looking at the same mod on my zuk.

thanks

Re: Front Toyota Axle to Wide ?? Axle widths ??

No

That is the bad part. The axle sticks out more on the drivers side.

Moving the one perch was better than trying to move the double unit on the
passenger side. To move the double unit alot of work would be required since
it also connects to the axle and some what to the center section.

No test drive has been performed. The Z-Link made from some FJ60 steering parts
did not work out. I will have something tomorrow, its off to work on Monday.
