New guy here...

Hey all, I'm a new guy on the board. I have a bone stock 89 sidekick that i bougth a few months ago just for a cheap winter 4*4. I didn't realize that it would be so much fun! Have a few questions though...

Isn't it hard on the engine, when driving around 65-70 that its turning 3500-3700 RPM? Poor little engine just sounds like its screaming! I'm scared to even pass someone at 75 because its almost at 4,000! What are all your guys's driving styles on the highway?

Also, my zuk surgest at idle when it gets warm. It never quits, but it surgest up and down about 500 rpm for a while. What could that be?

Is there any easy modifications to get a little more power out of it?

What are the biggest tires I could put on it without gearing it down ? I do mainly highway driving, with some mud and snow, but no serious off roading. I'd like to get the rpms down alittle on highway driving.

BTW mine's an 89 with 105K miles on it.

Re: New guy here...

hey just a few days ago, i was the new guy here...these guys are wonderful...the rpms are fine at 4000 or less for highway...don't know too much about "Kicks since i own a Sammi, but you can probably go one or two tires sizes bigger than stock w/o messing anything up...that will also aid in bringing your rpms down a bit on highway...hopefully someone w/ a little more knowledge will help you out a little more...

Re: New guy here...

the 3500-3700 rpm range is just fine
I have a samurai with a '95 tracker engine. I usually run it in the highway at about 4k and passing is at about 4.5 4.7k.
This Suki engines love to rev... the 1.3 is still higher reving than this 1.6... at about 6.5 REAL readline.. the 1.6 falls short at about 5.5
my 2 cents

Re: New guy here...

Welcome aboard!!! I also have a 95 Tracker motor in my Samurai and it revs up pretty high as well. Not to worry though it's normal. You could probably go up 2 sizes and not have any problems other than at a full lock turn.

Re: New guy here...

Welcome to the board. That range shouldn't hurt that engine at all. I have a sammy and run mine at 4-5k all the time. Not to sure about your tire size.
