YJs Reverse or Not?

I am getting ready swap YJ springs and do Toy axles. Is it better to do reverse shackle. Any thoughts appreciated.......

Re: YJs Reverse or Not?

Having run standard shackle setups (with Missing Links) and reverse shackle setups (with YJ springs) I definitely prefer the shackle reversal off-road. On-road, you will definitely notice increased brake dive and body lean around corners. Off-road, you will notice a big improvement in front suspension behavior while rockcrawling and on rough roads at high speed. You also won't need a panhard bar, and you won't have a problem with the front springs bending or breaking if you jam a front tire against a rock.

Think of it this way: for off-road use, you definitely want a shackle reversal. For on-road use, you might or might not want the shackle reversal. I personally like the shackle reversal on-road because of the significantly improved ride, but don't expect it to corner or brake any better than a Cadillac on windy roads.

I was thinking of using the 9000 ranchos so I could dial them stiff for on the road, what do you think.

Re: YJs Reverse or Not?

i have toy axles, yj suspension, shackle reversal, with the rancho 9012 adjustables. i think its great on road and off road. i have them set at 3 on all four corners and can buzz around town comfortably on tight turns, bumpy roads and everything. i haven't ever had a smoother riding samurai.

Re: YJs Reverse or Not?

I have fit 2 Willys Jeeps on an 18' trailer. I put them nose to nose, large tires on one front and flat tires on the other so they overlapped.

Re: YJs Reverse or Not?

yep, 2 zuks, 1- 18' trailer. we made a frame out of 2x2squarestock, crossbraced it, bolted 1" pressuretreated plywood on top of that. ill post some pics. the measuring tape says it will work. if not the front tires are driving on top of a hood and being strapped down.
