SJ410

I bought a canadian 84 SJ410. Now I need to know the possibilities of swapping the rear axle with one from a samurai. Is it possible?

Re: SJ410

Bolt pattern on the flage may/will be different.
You can either re-drill 4 new holes on the diff's flange to match the 410 pattern or change the UJ on the end of the rear prop
Springs are the same with appart on the rear
Your gears will be out but 410 diffs will fit in the sammi casings
410 has the handbrake on the t-case so 1 less thing to worry about on a rear disc conversion

Up front if your putting the sammi axles under the 410 you'll have to move the spring saddles/perches in about an inch on either side.
Try to resist mounting the springs out like on the sammi.

Re: SJ410

not sure if I read that post right.

Clarification: SJ-410 gears/carriers will NOT fit in a Sam axle.

Re: SJ410

Ok if I understand : If I swap the complete rear axle ass. (with gears and everything from the Sam.) The only thing I will do is change the flange on the propeller shat. Now for the rear brakes, should I keep the sam Axle shaft with drums or put back my SJ-410 shaft and if so will the axle shaft from the SJ fit in the sam rear axle? I guess the best is to put all the rear end of the sam and drill new holes in the prop. shaft.

How does one get one of these? I live in Florida and would love to get one of them.

Re: SJ410

OOOPS

Typo.

413 diffs in the Sammi axles.
Theyre abour the same ratio as the 410 but will fit in the sammi axles.

Re: SJ410

just for clarification:

410 has a completely different R&P setup than a 413/Sam and is 4.1:1 ratio

a 413 is "identical" to a Sam except the R&P ratio is 3.9:1 and the axle housings are ~4" narrower than a Sam. The brake parts are different too but mostly interchangable.

a Sam has 3.73 ratio stock.

there is some differential interchangability between the 410 and LJ but I do not know how much (complete or just carrier parts). LJs had something like a 4.5:1 ratio?
