Rebuilding transmission

My next job is rebuilding my spare transmission, picked it up for $70.00
Fifth gear screams, and the syncros are a bit slow.

Is there any thing super tricky to watch for ?
Or can I just replace everything as I find it ?
My Haynes manual dodges the issue completely.

Re: Rebuilding transmission

Take your time and catalog(write down) ever step you take and every part you take off.

I find it easiest if when you take one piece off, spacer or a bearing or a gear,- clean it up, dry it off and put a strip of tape on it with a number. then when ready to reasemble follow the steps back to completion.

Take your time with the bolts. Heat never hurts, use lots of penitrating oil. I just opened my transfer case and broke 8 of the 12 bolts. It took my almost a full day you get them out without damaging the case too much.

Also try to find some one who has an exploded view of the tranny. Not only does this tell you were parts go, but which direction bearings or gears come off a shaft.

Good luck and i hope you are succesful with your journy!!
