Re: 2wd rear drive shaft

Another question, what does one look like? And how is it situated with the off-set diff? I mean, the tranny is centered and the diff is not. Always curious about that.

Re: 2wd rear drive shaft

The rear drive shaft in a 2WD Samurai is the same as a 4x4 one.

Re: 2wd rear drive shaft

There is a transfer case of sorts in a 2WD Samurai. It's just missing the front half. so, the rear driveshaft is exactly like any of the large flange rear driveshafts.

Re: 2wd rear drive shaft

OILBURNER is right. The intermediate shaft, rear driveshaft, and the rear diff are identical to a 4WD model. CAP'N is right about the tcase missing the front output and of course the shift tower.

Almost all of the front axle parts from the 2WD (from the knuckles out) can also be used in the 4WD axle. The 2wd spindle does not have a large enough opening for the 4wd axles to fit through, but everything else is the same. Very easy conversion with no fabrication required.

OILBURNER saw my white '93 2WD conversion. You cannot tell it was ever 2WD.

Re: 2wd rear drive shaft

Is there a "4WD" light already hardwired into the dash? I was supposed to have a 2WD at my house last Saturday but my wife's car died on the way to pick it up...

Re: 2wd rear drive shaft

No, there is not even a hole where the 4WD light is supposed to be on a late model cluster. I found a late model cluster with a tachometer and the 4wd light works fine with no modifications.

I have a late model 4wd cluster without a tach if you want to trade an early cluster with a tach for it.
