What years for Toy axles?

<font color=blue> Found a '81 toy for sale for only $500. It should be solid axle up front that year but would it do me any good? Anyone know to save me some time to go look.

Re: What years for Toy axles?

I am currently putting 83 toyota axles under my rig. I believe that 81-83 have the same type axles underneath. 84-85 would be your best choice since they are fully gusseted under the axle, but I dont think you would have to worry about bending the housing with the lightweight of the sammy. 81-83 hacve gussets to the spring perch which gets the job done. 500 is a good price since I paid 400 for just the axles. I got ripped. Get em quick cause its an awesome swap

Re: What years for Toy axles?

Funny you should ask. I was just reading an article on this topic this afternoon. This was in the July 2001 Petersen's 4wheel & Off-Road. Hope this helps.

Re: What years for Toy axles?

A little info on gear ratio's in Toyota axles.
'79-'80: 4.37:1 gears
'81: 3.90:1 gears
'82-'86: 4.10 gears
whith IFS rear diffs came with various gear ratios which included: 4.10:1, 4.30:1, 4.56:1, 4.88:1
check the info tag on the pass side inner fender to decode the info.
here's a site to decode the tag....
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9975/dataBySubject/AxleCodes.html

If your looking to buy an '81 you may want to look closly to the gear ratio in it because it is the least desired ratio out there.

Re: What years for Toy axles?

DAMN, you guys are getting ripped off! I got my Toyota axles for $200.00!!! YEP, 100 each! I had to pull them and it was hot as hell that day, had to of benn around 100 degerees! Anyway, the axles that I got are 1985, it has the 4.11:1 gears in them. Very good swap and looks like it is going to be a easy one too!
