coils.....

Hey dudes! I finally sold my chevy($4500)so now its time to start building the sammy. Its been on blocks for about four months now and I have been debating what lift to do whille I waited for my truck to sell. Well on friday I got a hold of Mike Shaffer to buy his coil kit and ordered the gears and spools for the toyota axles. Now I only need t-case gears, rear disc brakes, crossover steering, and tires. I think I will go with 35 tsl-sx's cause boggers wear to fast on road. I am kind of stumped on the rear discs and t-case gears cause I dont know who to buy from. I would do the brakes my self ,but I dont know how to do it. If anyone could give me any good suggestions or tips it would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot. Cant wait to see ya all on the trail, sometime.

Re: coils.....

Well you can go to these web-pages and look for them. Good people also!

If you are looking at getting rear disc's on your toyota axles you can go to any of these web-pages. I'm working on getting my yota axles under my rig now! I looked into the disc brake conv. for mine and thought it was too much money. So, the 4X4 shop here in town said that he can fab up something much cheaper! If you have a shop near you, I'd ask them if they can do something for ya. Or you can go to the Toyota BBS and ask them if they have any info on custom rear disc brake conversions.
anyway, here are the web-pages...

That should help ya out. Send some pic's when your done, later

Re: coils.....

Yeah I have seen all those kits too, but the price is preaty steep and I am trying to save some money in places. What kind of setup is the shop gonna make ya and what was the price quote? By the way your rig is bad ass. How do those boggers wear on the road?

Re: coils.....

I will be doing a similar set-up this winter, Shaffer kit with land cruiser axles. I was gonna do a rear disk brake conversion but is expensive. The toyota drums are much larger, should stop the light samurai easy. You gonna put a spool in the front?

Re: coils.....

Thats awesome. I think I talked to mike about someone he was making a kit custom for, because they had toyota landcruiser axles and he was gonna make my kit at the same time because it was gonna have to be custom cause the front pumpkin would interfere with the links and coil mounts. Have you already ordered the kit? Yes I am puttin spools front and rear. I ordered them from national drivetrain for $230 each also 5.29 gears at same time. I'm not worried about steering, it will be fine.

Re: coils.....

Zooky I have plans for the adapters for the disk brake conversion on LC axles here somewhere. Uses GM disk and caliper if I remember well......

Re: coils.....

yea nutzack, that was me he was refering too. Ordered it a few weeks ago. Glad to see I am not the only one. Why a spool in the front? Just wondering, a locker is only about $30 more. What did you pay for the gears? I will need some.
Danny, if you could find those instructions that would be awesome!

Re: coils.....

nutzack, the shop here said something like custom disc's made out of Cadillac stuff? I'll have to call him tomorrow and ask! I have to call anyway to see about my YJ/CJ springs he has. I'll post here or e-mail ya what he saids. I just got done cleaning up the rear axle and putting a new fresh paint job and new gear oil in it! Looks new! Might see if I can stick it under the Zuk tomorrow and weld the spring perches to the axle. Attached is a pic of it about 5days ago... Will update the pic's as soon as I can on my web-page.
The Boggers are okay for the street. Stay with the TSL SX's, they will last ya longer and will ride better on the street. Mine arn't even blanced so it is a rough ride on the street, but when your going over 50MPH it is smooth!

Re: coils.....

Thanks for the info zuk jr. I would be interested in the disc break stuff. I found an article a couple days ago on the cadilac disc brake swap, but did'nt really read it. Please post what you find out about it, that would be great cause I need to save some money and this would help. Do you think 35's are too big for the sammy. I plan to go with a 1.6 16v in the future, but for right now I just have stock with k&n, thorley headers, no cat + flowmaster, weber, taylor wires. Hopefully it will be sufficient. How does yours handle off road with the tires and engine?

Re: coils.....

Hey zooky a spool is a locker why would I want to pay more money for the same result. I got my gears from national drivetrain for $159 each and $112 for install kit. Sucks we have to wait 2 months for the kit, huh? If you need the gears for a landcruiser axle it will be more, in case ya did'nt know. I am sure ya did.
