Diff lock\'s

Hey,

Can I get some advice about 'diff' lockers?

What type are there? (Automatic, air-locker,...)
What are the advantages per type of locker?
how much cost it (approx)?
Can I installed it myself, or do i need a welding machine...
Is one in the rear enough or is it better to mount it in the front axle?
...

For my sam,I would like a diff that i can manual lock and un-lock,
I use my sam as daily driver, so it has to deal with on-road but also with mud, ice&snow, ...
AND I only want a locker that is proven by the control,
it should be a legal solutions (so no welding on the axle etc...)

thanks,
Danny

Re: Diff lock\'s

Available at this time are regular lockers, like LockRight.

Or ARB Air Lockers, which turn on and off. Though at $599 each, these are not for those on a tight budget.

Coming this Winter will be spool lockers. A spool never unlocks, and so can be hard on drivetrain and tires around town. But the offroad performance is such that many are willing to forego the daily inconveniences. We'll have info up on the spools as soon as it is available.

Re: Diff lock\'s

Since you want to drive in SNow/ice the only possible soulutions are limited slip or ARB air lockers.
the lockright is not a smooth locker and will put you offroad in a heart beat. (From 0-4" of snow they really are twitchy and not good. above 4" of snow they work okay and the amount of snow dampens the reaction of the lock/unlock on a corner..) I use lockrights BTW.. Love em otherwise but for something that is a daily driver/snow ice no way should they be used. (That said I ran mine last year, and while you can do it it is No fun.)
