Jumps out of 4L

My transfer case (stock '87 tc) jumps out of gear in 4L.
It doesn't take much to hold it in place, but if I need 4L I need two hands on the steering wheel!
What do you think would cause this?

It sounds like the long side tcase mount might be twisted. After I put in my 4.16 gears I ended up twisting the long mount after a day of wheeling.

I would start by pulling the mount and see if it looks straight. If not, either get some new heavy duty mounts or beef up your stock one with some steel (I used 1.5" wide plate steel and it's holding fine).

Been there, done that -- most likely that long mount twisted.

T-case long arm could be twisted, that's true, but I had that exact prob and it was 'cause I had a broken mount. I replaced my mounts and it fixed the prob as well as eliminted a lot of vibration I had. Check all of your three t-case mounts....and while your at it, check to see if your long arm is twisted. Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Broken mount did the same to me. A second time on a second occasion caused me to discover the rear engine mount was broken. The tranny would jump and jolt the t-case. Kicked it right out of 4L every time.
