2.3 Ford+Auto Swap??

I keep seeing Mustangs with these all over for sale cheap. Why is no one istalling them anyway. I thought the 2.3 was a tought little engine? Lots of pref parts too......Right?
Don't send hate mail, I'm just asking a question. I'd really like an AUTOMATIC!

Flame suit on......check.....ready........GO!!!

Yes, it's a popular swap into the old WIllys jeeps. The engine has more power, stronger block, better aftermarket support, and the T-90 trannu will still bolt to it. I have seen a few Willys with this engine in it, because you can keep the rest of the original drivetrain. Overall a good little motor. Don't know anything about automatics behind it though, sorry.

Re: 2.3 Ford+Auto Swap??

Jeepn is right...

the blue cj6 you see in the foto below came w/ the 2,3L ford engine... It is a 4x4 made by Jeep-Ford brazil in 1980, and came stock with the 2,3L engine.

Jeep was sold to amc in all parts of the world, except for brasil, where it was sold to Ford... so jeep-ford brasil kept building cj5 and cj6 until 1983

The nice thing is they put a 4 speed T90 behind it (instead of a 3speed) and the d18 transfer is the same as in willys (2,46:1)

The engine dishes out 90 hp (115 hp w/ a 2 barrel carb), but is a short stroker, thus not too torquy ... but still way up against the 134ci 72hp (?) willys engine.

got the engine-tranny combo in the shop if anybody would be interested ;o) ... shipping would be a drag ;o(

bye

Re: 2.3 Ford+Auto Swap??

danny, their a great lil motor man. got one in my 49 willys, popped 40 over n cam, factory holley 2barrel (exactly copy, actually liscensed from webber, same as we use on zuks) t90 n d18 in it, factory 5:38s, when i had 40s under it, i could jump the front tires over pop bottles with no prob.... great lil motor.

soooo, whos making the 2.3 motor adapters now for the t90 conversion??????????????? novak adapters was the one doing them YEARS AGO, but thats the only company i know of that did it. they discontinued them back, real late 80s or early 90s. havent found one in years. would love to get my grubby paws on another.

hey thats the good one ...instead of a 155 hp motor _no intercooler ,thats 185 hp with an intercooler ...what a steal.if you wern't so foar away i snag it in a minute.great engines if you keep up on the oil changes.turbo goes out at around 100,000 miles ...but is oil AND water jacketed :-) neat little motor !!!!!!well worth a rebuild .
