How do you skin a Samurai?

Simple, find a hardtop that has both rear quarter panels rusted out badly and find a big sardine key...

Re: How do you skin a Samurai?

... and start turning!

I have alway's wanted a hardtop and I could not beat the $150 price. Good thing I have experience in body work! These are the only bad areas and believe it or not the rockers are solid. The only rust in the main tub was both rear fender wells. They are so bad that the body and the wheel well were seperated by almost two inches in some areas. After I found the full extent of the rust, it was easier to cut out donor panels and skin the entire rear quarter.

Re: How do you skin a Samurai?

I was thinking of just replacing quarter with sheet metal, but I have a rust free soft top in my backyard that is going to donate it's skins. Too bad you didn't have it instead of the one you are repairing. Believe it or not, this donor Samurai that I am going to cut up was just painted about two years ago! Oh well, it's not like I am destroying a Samurai - I am cutting up one to save another and the hardtops are not easy to find around here.

Re: How do you skin a Samurai?

I like that flat wheel well idea. I have to give it a thought. I did want to install the stock flares back on the hardtop when everything was done. You have me thinking now...
