carb help - urgent

Sorry to ask again but this is pretty urgent.

I've bolt the new carb onto the intake manifold of my '85 1.3ltr and am a little lost when it comes to the hose connections.

After I got it back from being reco'd all my labelled hoses no longer had labels on them.

I have most of it connected but am lost when it comes to:

- The fuel unit, it has three points on it. I know the upper two are for the fuel lines from the tank(in and out) but what is the one pointing downwards for? Is it a breather?

- On the manifold, firewall side of the carb, right near the base of the carb there is a little tiny pipe poking out(from the manifold). Is it a breather or should a hose connect to this?

- where does the charcoal canister connect to?

I did a search and found some pics but they don't really help me that much. Has anyone got any close up, high detail pics of the carb/intake manifold hosing system (water pipes would be good too)

Sorry to pester guys but I'm trying to get the rig running for an interstate trip on saturday.

Thanks heaps in advance.

If my '86 is the same, I have a TON of pics. Problem is, I'm headed to work right now and can't send them out. They're about 1 Mb each and I have to tone them down a bit to send them out as I'm on a regular modem. Is it OK to send them tonight?

Re: carb help - urgent

AS FAR AS THE TINY LITTLE PIPE poking out there is a little pipe on the underside of the air cleaner to the left of the carb... connect these two pipes with hose... first time i disconnected my air cleaner i apparently busted this hose and it took me damn near 6 months to find out why it was idling so rough... when i changed the pcv valve one day i noticed that little pipe with a torn hose on it... connected them and it runs great now

You can try my site for carb pics. Don't know if it works all the time but you can try. Jim

Re: carb help - urgent

based on an '88 carbureted unit,

1. Yes, it's a breather for the fuel pump diaphragm. Nothing goes there.

2. Look under the air breather adapter. It's the piece that bolts on top of the carb. There should be a small pipe there. That is the Hot Idle Compensator (HIC). a vaccuum line should run from the manifold (as you described) to this fitting. It is almost a straight run of about 5 inches.

BTW, in researching this question I noticed my line had fallen off! Maybe that explains why my engine has been running ever-so-hinky since I made my last pass at the Badlands before leaving the Melt in July...

3. the smaller diameter hose on the cannister goes to a port on the passenger side of the carb just a little above and to the left of the vaccuum port that has the tee connection going to it. The larger hose goes to a connection on the front passenger side of the carb. The third big line should go to a line on the frame that feeds back to the fuel tank.

Hope this helps!

Re: carb help - urgent

I sent the pics to you, they are about 160K each, and I'm having a problem with my fototime account.
