Engine Help :(

I just recently got my engine back (missing a few bits that should be coming via courier today) and I'm a little concerned that I haven't got what I paid for.

Is there any real way of telling if my engine has:
1> a GTI cranka nd stud girdles
2> a custom cam
3> has been fully balanced

any tips on finding out if these things have been done would be greatly appreciated. I rang the guy about the missing bits and he was very rude to me on the phone, so I'm a little sceptical as to if I have been given what I paid for.

thanks in advance.

Re: Engine Help :(

Geez -- it seems to me that it would be tough to know without tearing it down or having another shop tear it down for you and check it out. The balancing involves ensuring that the tolerances are all within factory limits. Without tearing it down, I can't think of how you could tell. You could possibly check the cam by pulling the valve cover and measuring the valve travel and comparing it with a spec. At the same time you could use a cam dial to measure its duration and compare it with the spec that the shop should have provided you with.

I feel for you on this one. There is nothing worse than having the feeling that someone is trying to take you for a ride. Esp. with the amount of money I imagine they charged you for a balance and blueprint. Don't feel as though I am helping much --- I hope you find that all is well in the end. Maybe the guy was just having a bad day @ the moment you talked to him on the phone.

I'll be back.

Re: Engine Help :(

thanks man. I'll just wait until I start her up and take her for a drive (next thursday).

I'll also have pics very soon after of my finished rig that's been 6 months in the making.
