Insulating Mega Flow ??

I've just installed a Mega Flow setup on my 87. While tinkering around after the install, I noticed that the hot air blown from my electric fan bathes the metal tube with hot air. For summer driving, I thought that cool air would give me better performance so I've insulated the metal tube with foam pipe insulation. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Insulating Mega Flow ??

since you are still drawing air from under the hood anyway, I would not stress to much on that one >

Re: Insulating Mega Flow ??

Crow, I agree with bcneiman. If the fan is running the air under the hood is probably pretty warm anyways. Jim

If you're to install a snorkel, that would be the best way to go. Nice clean cool air. Also, real nice looking zook you've got there kmoore. Are those 31"'s on there?

got zook? I do, 88.5!

Re: Insulating Mega Flow ??

I've located the Mega Flow unit out of the air path of the fan. I've found some pipe insulation that I used to insulate it from the warm air. I'm figuring if I can do a number of small things to improve efficiency, perhaps they will act in concert to make a measureable difference. Standing alone, their impact might be insignificant.
I know that the auto manufacturers do thermally map the engine compartment when making or changing designs.
I will, at some point reach a point of diminishing returns. Till that happens, I'm having fun "tweakin" things under the hood.
