Stock Fule pump question

I noticed the other night that my fule pump is missing a hose.

Do any of you know what connects to the outlet off the rear, or firewall side, of the fule pump?

I know on top we have the two hoses that go to the gas tank, and out the front we have the one that goes to the carb, but there is a metal hose fitting comming out of the rear that is bent 90 deg. Mine is spitting gas out and causing gas fumes in the cab.

Re: Stock Fule pump question

I'd say it's time for a new fuel pump.

I ahve the same fitting with nothing on it but it is not spitting gas. I think it is a breather or something like that. Sounds like you need a new pump.

Re: Stock Fule pump question

That is just the breather for the pump. if it is leaking anything replace it ASAP. (The normal failure mode is Oil out that
pipe..)

Re: Stock Fule pump question

I'm afraid 88.5 samurai may be right...

Just checked under the hood for this mysterious pipe after not finding any reference to it in Haynes or my '88 shop manual. Best I can figure is that it is a vent on the opposite side of the pump diaphram that lets the pump work easier.

If this is the case and you are seeing fuel dripping out of it, then you have a broken diaphram and need a new pump.

Ack
