Trail Tough exhaust to 1.6?

Has anyone modifuied the Trail Tough 2" exhaust system to fit a Sami with a 1.6? My parts rig has a new one and I woiuld like to use this on my 87 with the 1.6. It appears that I would need a new collector that goes into a short bent pipe to connect the system. Any ideas?

Re: Trail Tough exhaust to 1.6?

Crow: Since Brent at Trail Tough is the expert on the 1.6l 16v engine install I think he could make up pipes to fit. If you already have the pipes, he would be an excellant source for modification information. Give Brent a call, he will be a great help.

Re: Trail Tough exhaust to 1.6?

Thanks Farther! I'll give him a call. I should have been more specific though. My 87 has an 8v 1.6 with a Thorley. Comparing the TT system with what I think I need, would be to elliminate the manifold to cat pipe. In it's place I would need the collector to a short bent pipe that has the 2 bolt flange to connect the rest of the system. The TT system has the cat at an inboard angle while my cat is inline with the collector. The collector ends forward of where the 2 bolt flange on the cat, hopefully allowing a small bent pipe to allow it's use. I'll pass on what Brent says.....

Re: Trail Tough exhaust to 1.6?

I just spoke with Brent and as usual, he was more than helpful. Unfortunately for me, what I need must be fabbed up by a muffler shop. He does offer a system for Thorley equiped Samis that isn't featured on his web site. I really liked the tone of his system (heard it on the parts rig I have now when it was running). It's a high quality piece of work and this is why I'm so anxious to adapt it to fit my setup.

2" system with high flow cat and low restriction muffler. Check out Brent's site.

Re: Trail Tough exhaust to 1.6?

If I understood Brent correctly, the cat is more inline with the header collector on the Thorley system. The stock one angles towards the center a bit.
