Engine runnin funny

I just put a new 1600 lower block to my samurai and used the old head. I put a new head gasket and a new timing belt on my reassembly but it seems to run a bit funny.

It seems to have a hard time idling and lacks the power it used to have during acceleration

The head and all it's other components were undisturbed for they were still attached to the head when I pulled it,
my only theory is that the timing might be off a notch when installing the new belt. I doubt I damaged the gasket.

any other possibilities?

mike

Re: Engine runnin funny

Did you have the head rebuild?

Old valves without a regrind or replacement may not be seating well.

Need a more in depth description of what you did.

Like which cam are you running. Did you deck the block or shave the head.

Could be just a question of proper valve lash adjustment.

Tell us more and maybe we can point some things out.

Re: Engine runnin funny

the head worked fine before I took it off, I never tinkered with the head, took off the intake or exhaust manifolds. should I have had the head shaved before installing?
