Re: Factory limited slip question

I think if you throw a jack under the diff and put your rig in neutral then spin a tire with your hand if the other one goes the opposite direction it's stock if it spins the same direction you have the factory limited slip. Not sure on this but someone out there will make a correction if I'm out to lunch

Is there any other way to tell?

Re: Factory limited slip question

You cannot tell by visually looking at the outside of the housing. Your options are to pull it apart and look inside, or do the 'spin test' as mentioned before.

Re: Factory limited slip question

the spinning method is fine, the fine print should read "traction adding device" instead of "posi"... you will get the same result for a posi, for a locker and for a spool...

sorry, didnt want to be a smartmouth, but i had to jump in ;o)

Thanks man I've been spinning rear ends of Sammy's for close to ten years in wreckers not knowing for sure if what I was doing was the way to find that TRACTION DEVISE now I know to keep spinning !

Re: Factory limited slip question

I was not totally sure the spin test would work with limited slip. I don't really know how it works I thought it was like a friction locker and would have to be spun under load for awhile to engage. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Factory limited slip question

I didn't realize the limited slip was an option. Please tell me what years it came in and I'll poke around the junkyard looking for one. I'd like to put one on the rear.
