Backspacing Confused

I'm a little confused about backspacing on rims. Does a 3 3/4 backspaced rim put the tire closer to or farther from the springs than a 2 3/4 backspaced rim? Thanks. Jim

Re: Backspacing Confused

3 3/4 inch would put it closer to the springs go with the 2 3/4inch .or better that like mine just 2 inch.

Re: Backspacing Confused

Basically that is the distance from the end of your axle inward, so the greater the backspacing figure, the closer to the springs the tire will be.

Re: Backspacing Confused

No, stock rims have 4" of backspacing, so the 8" rim with 4.5" would put the tire 1/2" closer to your springs.
