new zook but ,no r.p.m.\'s

just bought a new zook 88.5 NO RUST,low miles and no power?
the little guy does great in first through third hitting around four to five grand then into fourth it's having a hard time holding three thousand r.p.m's and in fifth it just falls flat, nothing starts loosing speed and you have to down-shift to third to get back to fourty m.p.h.
and thats about the top speed, checked engine compression and it's ok. timings set at 10 before top dead center,
so anybody know what i'm missing here??? or any suggestions?
thanks
jeff

Pook, look to your fuel pump..mine did that when the pump was going....also, look at your distributor cap, check for any cracks.

go underneath it and hit the converter with a fist and see if you can here it rattle. i have had this happen too three different zuks. the monolith breaks free and works like a check valve. i would also put in a fuel presure gage and run it down the road and see if it is dropping. my 2 cents mike

Re: new zook but ,no r.p.m.\'s

See if you can bog the engine down in 1st or second gear at higher rpm (emulate the 4 and 5 gears but real slow). Eliminate the tranny. No power at the upper end in all gears? Change the air cleaner and maybe unbolt the exhaust and then run it again. hheheh, would be kinna loud, but oh well <G>. Your bearings could be going also, lots of drag @ high speed... Make sure everything is good and lubed..

got zook?

Re: new zook but ,no r.p.m.\'s

Uhummm...you have check your brakes, right??? It sounds like a drag to me; if your problem is speed_dependend, that usually comes down to brakes (stuck, seized, e-brake full_time engaged, etc. - comes with the funny smell :-) or bearings (wheel, diff - comes with the funny noises :-).
Why don't you try this: go down the hill in NEUTRAL, and see if the truck accelerates freely all by itself. You should be able to feel the resistance if any. Alternatively you could just push it on the flat pavement as well, but you should try to simulate the problem circumstances as close as possible....just my .02
