Info needed on idle adjustment (\'87 stock carb)

Greetings from We(s)t Coast :-)
I'm wondering if there is any posting/web_page available with some good info on setting the idle speed on the '87 OEM carb???
The main problem there is the cold start; the thing just dies unless kept on the throttle. The choke plate is closed when cold (I've adjusted the gap to .5MM according to the Hayness) so what gives????
The only other adjustments that I have found on it so far is the main throttle stop_bolt and idle_air screw (the ones right on the bottom on the engine side). I could crank up the main stop_bolt, but then when the thing warmes up, it idles on 2000RPM; not very convenient. Same applies to the idle_air screw...I guess I'm screwing <sic!> something up. Never been good with carburators, so doesn't surprise me at all.
Any sugestions will be sweetly appreciated :-)
