yah got another idea on homemade stuff!! this time we get are invention of a expander shackle made from 2 discount auto shackles!I have been thinkin and lookin at this for a while and think it would work but I am worried about 2 things:
can it expand real far and flop the other way??
with it ridin like that...will I have any lift from it??

Re: homemakin expanders!

yah! I just make blueprints of everything that I do! I sort of drew it all up did the math...this would ride as if I had a 2" shackle!! your total cost to do this would be 60 bucks (that would beat the hell out of missin links!)!!

Got mine all done and on the truck. They are the ones I made for the wrangler spring to sami frame. STUDLYBILLY, what would you do to make sure they were both the same size for the sami spring and frame, as it you put 1 on the outside of the other, its going to obviously be wider then it should be.

Re: homemakin expanders!

doug these shackles are a 2 piece design that are bolted together around the hanger and the spring! I am makin a type of washer that will help me our cause the spring hangers side will be a little wider but not like your thinkin kind of wide!

P.S. as for the math...It took me about 1 1/2 days to figure out what math to do !

Re: homemakin expanders!

Yes they can hyperextend, and yes your springs can actually bend and/or fold when they do. It is VERY important to build hyperextension protection into any dual shackle system.

Re: homemakin expanders!

I don't know guys fabing your own parts is great but "Cheap" may not always be the way to go....remember its your life your dealing with (and possibly others.) just something to think about..yeah neccesity is the mother of all invention, however, stupidity is the father of regrets. So all I'm saying is use Mr. Obvious' #1 rule "Always know when to hire a professional"...Im sure some of the pors on this board would agree.
