mystery engine part?

i'm rebuilding my 1.3l and when i took the front cover/oil pump housing off a small H-shaped rubber piece about one inch long fell out. where is this supposed to go? i found a hole that goes from housing to block it might fit in but i'm not sure.

the harder i try to be gooder the worser i get.

Re: mystery engine part?

It is the little black piece that seals the gap between the head, block or water pump for the timing belt cover. Take a look and around there and you should see a gap along the lip that the cover seals against and that is where it goes. I can't remember exactly where it goes until I get home and look at the spare 1.3 that I have in my garage. You should be able to find it easily.

look at the backside of your timing belt cover. You'll see the shape of that piece. It goes right above the waterpump. I almost left it out when I changed the waterpump on mine.

Watch out!

There are two of them! One for each side.
