Re: Sammy 5th gear?

88 and earlier came with a lower 5th.... 88.5 and everything after that came with a little higher fifth... you can find the ratios on off-road.com somewhere... ill see if i can find them

Re: Sammy 5th gear?

So my '86 has the lower .795 5th already.. I wonder how it will like the 5.12's on the highway...

Re: Sammy 5th gear?

The off road.com gear/rpm calc puts my motor at 4200 rpm at 60 mph with 31's.. that doesn't seem too high to me. Thats with a GRS1 and 5.12's.

That is a really cool spreadsheet, thanks to whoever wrote it!

Re: Sammy 5th gear?

with a GRSII it only bumps it to about 4450 at 60.. should I go with the lower tcase gearing? What do you think?

Re: Sammy 5th gear?

No, actually it's the other way around... if you have an '86 you have the higher 5th gear. The'86-'88 have the .795 higher 5th gear and '88.5 and newer have the .865 lower 5th gear.

The years on the chart are wrong, but the gear ratios are correct.

Re: Sammy 5th gear?

Numerically lower but that means mechanically higher, or is that vice versa.
Basically it is good for me that it has the .795 5th gear, I can run a GRSII and 5.12's and still do 70!
