Re: How do yall do it??

hey just remember that when you fabricate your own parts, you are putting your own knowledge and love into that part. And most of the time you are building it the way you need it to be. buying parts from a company is nice, but when was the last time someone said "Hey you drive like me." So remember no one drives like you do, they all drive like crap and your the only one doing it rite.

If you want a really cool mod. take a Weber grill top. Cut the back off, and weld it to the hood. Makes a great cowl.

Re: How do yall do it??

Drill, bandsaw, welder, handrill, drill bits, grinders, Visegrip, cutting oil, screwdrivers, BFG hammers, wirebrush, torch, etc, etc......
Most of all patience, practice, and common sense. try to hook up with someone that does this sort of thing and WATCH and LEARN!!!

Perches.......easy way.....square or rectangular tubing cut to lenght and remove one of the sides. Drill hole for bolt size.....
Harder.... cut all plates to size and weld together.......yuck....

Re: How do yall do it??

DannyL listed most of the tools, for perches i took some 2x5x1/4" steel tubing, used a hole saw to cut a hole in the center of the 6" long peice, cut the peice in half, angle the ends with a band saw (and use the saw to cut it in half), use a drill press to drill holes and thats it.

Re: How do yall do it??

cool so for somthing like perches I would take square non-hollow tubin cut it in length and then cut it in half or what not..wouldn't I have to shape one side to fit over the axle??

P.S. what do yall think of this design as a home made panhard??!!

Re: How do yall do it??

Well, I have not done so many mods as Danny and others, but I do know they left out some important things that I use with most every mod I have done... cuss words, sweat, and elbow grease. Some of the things I have caled my tranny while pulling it out the first time. Oy!

Re: How do yall do it??

lots of cuss words!! i started making my own stuff because some of the already manufactured parts are very expensive yet simple in design. sometimes i can make something for a fraction of the cost and have it when i need it! no waiting for shipping or back orders. i spent aprox. $40.00 on my panhard bar. bought the components from a local racing company. took a couple of hours to weld and install. looks very similar to the spidertrax kit.
