Re: Home made YJ kit??

Are you having a shackle at both ends? If so that wont work. I though have a rear kit I have had made which will have drop link style shackels which fit the samurai end and wrangler end without welding that little tube on the samurai rear. Almost done, just have to finish welding the shackle up. Total cost was $70 since it was all a few pieces of each design not a big order.

Re: Home made YJ kit??

depends on how your going to mount the front eye of the spring. if its going in the factory spring eye mount, your going to considerably stretch the wb on it. they rear shackle would lay flat or close to it unless you make xpander/missin links like doug is doing.

Re: Home made YJ kit??

Sure thing, gonna have the welding done thursday at work, but they actually work now, but can be over extended as the stop has to be welded in.

Re: Home made YJ kit??

So even if I welded the front hanger of the rear spring to the frame it still would not work??... then what if I just ran out the shackle out the back??

Re: Home made YJ kit??

Just a reminder, please send me some pics. I would be interested in seeing them and how it functions. I think i want to put this set up on my wifes rig but possibly no expanding shackle. Max

Re: Home made YJ kit??

If thats the case, then all you need to do is make up 4 metal plates to bolt into the sides of the current hanger but extend it out like 3" so you can put the wrangler spring more foward, I used the original factory holes and drilled 2 more 1/2 holes per plate with grade 8 bolts. I also wanted it to fit in with my nerf bars and the CSC thing wouldnt have .. If I wanted, to I could make everything work with just nuts and bolts, plates and shackles, but I want to weld the shackles up, so the stop for the expanding is welded in ..

Re: Home made YJ kit??

same here! I just did not think of it as technicaly as you were I think I was hoping more along the lines of cheap!! So should I weld my shackles on the spring hangers toward the bumper or the other way around??

Re: Home made YJ kit??

Dont think Cheap, think Inexpensive ;-) haha and yes this was, total cost for all the metal for the spring hangers(1/4"), shackles(3/16"), and spring U-Bolt plates(3/8")plus square tube for the shacles was about $80. Mind you these were all 1 off's so of course the price was a lot higher then if I say had bought alot, the guy told me it would have knocked the price down to almost half per kit. It was all laser cut by a plasma cutter.

Oh yeah here is the URL to see basic shots I took tonight,

Maybe someone else can make it clicky for me :-)
