compression and octane

Having boosted my 1.3's compression, will I need to start using 90 octane gas?

I am wondering that the noise the engine is making (hard to hear with the open exhaust system) under load is possibly pinging...

Any ideas?

Acker

Re: compression and octane

if its pinging it problay means your timing aint right .10/5 compreission pistons will run fine on 87 octane but i also use 93 dont no why but it seems to keep motor les carboned up.

Re: compression and octane

I borrowed a timing light & set the timing to factory specs this morning... +10 degrees at 800 RPM. The results, unfortunately, was degraded performance. Your advice agrees with others I have asked dparker! So my next tank of gas will be premium.
