Transmission Noise

I recently noticed that my tranny is making noise when its in neutral and the main shaft is spinning -- I can hear the shaft rotating. It doesn't sound that bad except after it been setting for a while and I guess all the grease has settled to the bottom. I changed out the grease a couple weeks ago to the Mobile 1. Not much change if any.

Can others hear the main shaft spinning when in neutral or is mine on its way out? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
William

I'll be back.

Re: Transmission Noise

I've had noises in every Sami tranny I've had. Never thought much of it until the last one made too much noise then eventually went bad...

Re: Transmission Noise

the tranny i just swapped in mine just recently has a bad mainshaft bearing. when i am coasting with the clutch in or out in neutral or in gear it makes a metal meshing sound. if it makes this noise when its stopped, clutch out, its most likely your throwout bearing. ive never owned a zuk w/o that noise. even with new ones. also if its when you are moving when it makes this noise it could be the intermediate shaft to the tcase. that round weed shield thing broke free on one of my shafts and made a similar noise.

build it, break it, then build it better.

Re: Transmission Noise

Well... it does stop when I push in the clutch but I believe that is when the throwout bearing is working. It engages again the press. plate to disengage the clutch. Everything sounds nice and quiet with the clutch pushed in. I replaced the thow out bearing, press. plate and clutch in Jan.

The rotating sound can be heard outside and inside when its idling in neutral.

I'll be back.

Re: Transmission Noise

But the throwout bearing is inactive/not rotating with the clutch out.

I'll be back.
