What oil to run in stock motor?

Looking to see what people run. I am going to wheel it, and it'll probably spend most of it's time off-road. What weight and brand oil should I use? I use Wal-Mart oil (made by Quaker State) in the Trooper and TJ, but change them every 3K religeously. In the diffs, trannies, and transfer I only run Mobil-1 synthetic.

Re: What oil to run in stock motor?

i use quakerstate 10w-40 synthetic 4X4 formula...
they say its specially formualted for hard working engines or whatever, and i figured that the zook engine is hard working... i mean, sometimes it revs upwards of 5000rpm, so i want it well lubed... and its got 85000 miles on it, so i think i can baby it a little... i run a little heavier weight too so that maybe it wont leak quite as bad with a little heavier oil in it...

i run quakerstate in truck as well, but i just use the normal 5w-20 because thats what it calls for in the manual....

Re: What oil to run in stock motor?

I run 10w-40 in the summer, mobil-1 for all the gearoil
needs. 10w-30 in winter I have run 5w-30 in the coldest parts of the winter. I run non-syntetic as I tend to change
not on milage but off-road use. (I think an Hour-meter is a worthwhile addition as we where discussing.) I end up changing oil probly at 1500 miles. (Most of this is offroad with the weasel. My stockers go to 3K)

Re: What oil to run in stock motor?

That hour meter sounds like a great idea! I use amsoil 20-50 full synthetic racing oil in the zook with their oil filter. I also run mobil 1 synthetic. I have sprung some leaks because of it also, distrib, front seal, doh! I may go to a blend in the future...

got zook?

Re: What oil to run in stock motor?

Yes, I'm picking up an hour meter, along with the body lift, at the local Marine store tonight.

Glenn, I almost forgot, I have some military pins and latches for you, they'd go well with the Weasel's "decor". Can you send me your address offline? I'll send you a pic tonight of what they look like. Nothing much, just little do-dads.

Re: What oil to run in stock motor?

I Use Quaker State Synthetic Blend 4x4 formula - 10w30 and it seems to work well.

Re: What oil to run in stock motor?

Depends on the size, and I think they will be, never tried them before. I think they run about $2 each for the 2" or 2.5" ones, and I'll replace the center plastic piece with steel. I'll let you all know how they turn out. If two can withstand a 7,000 pound boat rocking back and forth on a trailer, 10 of them should hold up to a 2,000 pound Zuk. That's my rationale and I'm sticking to it.
