OT- need opinions

While I was checking the statistics of my website I noticed something wierd. One of my Uwharrie picture pages had a lot of hits(linked) from a Yahoo profile page. I thought it was strange so I checked out the profile.
http://profiles.yahoo.com/mustang_drivin_crach_head

This 17 year old punk has my website listed as his homepage. I didn't know if I should be flattered or mad! I really don't want to be assossiated with this crack head so it pissed me off. Plus I've spent a lot of time fixing up my Zuk and working on my website just to have this brat take credit for it!

Am I overreacting to this or do I have a right to be mad about it?
How do I get him to remove my website from his profile?

Opinion welcome,
Jay

Re: OT- need opinions

I think he is scamming everyone into believing that your homepage as his own. Look at his favorite quote "No road, no problem". After reading that quote and then clicking on 'My Homepage' and finding an offroad oriented homepage, I would assume it was his.

I would send him an email asking him to not list your homepage as his own and if that doesn't work then do the following. Edit your homepage and put a heading that says something like this, "This is not mustang_drivin_crach_head's homepage. If you think it is then you must be smoking crack too!"

That should result in enough feedback to him so that he will get the message.

Re: OT- need opinions

As a professional web developer I have to deal with this sort of thing every day. The easiest thing to do is to change the name of the page he is linking to. You could also keep the page he is linking to as a different page but put some rather disturbing comments on that page to the effect of "this site is currently infinging internation copyright and intellectual property laws. Subsiquently this site will no longer be viewed from this location. That should put the wind up him.

You should also email him saying the he is infinging upon international copyright and intellectual property laws. you must give him 48hrs to remove all of the "borrowed" content from his site. you should also tell him that if he doesn't respond to your requests in a satisfactory way that he will be liable for further action including prosecution, which will be to the fulle extent of the law.

You should also notify his ISP of what he is doing so that hey can also take action on your behalf. They normally suspend all web site priveleges and may go to the extent of terminating that particular account.

Always be poilte and courtious in your conversation in the event that you do need to take further action. That way there can be NO recourse against you.

If need any help in rectifying this problem I'd be more than willing to help you out in whatever way I can.

Re: OT- need opinions

Change your link (add a hyphen between Spring and 2001 or something). If he relinks, make sure the new page he links specifically states (c) Insert_Your_Name_Here. This is why I do these types of things on my site - it's not anal, it's protecting your content. revise your content to make sure you are front and center on it.

If he links it as his own, then you should have a problem. Otherwise be flattered.

Re: OT- need opinions

I wouldn't even say anything to him, I'd just change that one page to something absolutely disgusting and insulting to the viewer. Since it only says "My homepage" for his link, have some REAL fun with this punk... Link him to some crap like the KKK, Nazis or some other horrible hate group. I personally hate NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association [a bunch of Fukin' child molesters!]) and they have a website. Hook him up with them then get your old URL out to every extremist group around and watch the fur fly!!!!

Give it to me; I'll break it.

Re: OT- need opinions

The problem is, the link he has posted has my ID in it (jbird).
I don't want anything bad on that page. Or linked to anything else.

I did some searching and I found out how to report him to yahoo. It might take some time but they will delete his ID. Then I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Re: OT- need opinions

If that were the case I'd politely ask him to remove the link and if he doesn't then report him.
